OMENTAL CAKE (PERITONEAL CARCINOMATOSIS)
Discussion
Gastric, ovarian, pancreas, and colon carcinomas show a tendency to give metastases within the greater omentum. In the axial CT images the metastatic peritoneal implants are demonstated as inhomogenous soft tissue masses infiltrating the peritoneum (greater omentum), known as “omental caking” (figure 3). In our case we are presenting metastases of gastric carcinoma. Findings such as pleural effusions, massive ascites , and omental caking strongly suggest the aggressive character of the carcinoma.
Ascitew is present in over 70%.
Involved omental fat may appear permeated with enhancing discrete nodules or a diffuse cake.
